At Midnight on Christmas Eve is an illustrated book of a song written for children by David L. Edwards. The song is based on a legend found in the Appalachian Mountains, as well as in Eastern Europe and probably other places in the world. According to the story, God gives the animals the gift of speech at midnight on Christmas Eve because they were so kind as to share their home so that Jesus would have a place to be born.
The illustrator is Lauren Engelken, a recent graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah GA.
The book includes a written version of the song with piano accompaniment and guitar chords, and a CD of the song performed by David L. Edwards. The combination of beautiful artwork and a lovely and thoughtful song make this book a delight for young people and adults, as well as children.
