Parable of “The Vine” (complete)

What is the Parable of the Vine?

“Without the vine, no fruit could ever result. Without Christ, of course, there is no spiritual life or hope of eternal reward” The backdrop for this parable is Jesus’ explanation of the coming of the Holy Spirit in John 14:15-21 , which is a foundation passage of our union with Christ.

Sometimes, Jesus’ teaching would tell a story about everyday things to teach people an important lesson. In one lesson, Jesus explains how grapes grow and compared them to how we should grow. In the story, lord Jesus is like the true vine that gives the branches food, water, and everything it needs in producing fruit. We are like the vine and the branches. When we’re connected to Jesus Christ, we’ll bear fruit, too. We’ll grow the fruits of spiritual growth like love, joy, and patience. But, if we disconnect from Jesus, we won’t be able to produce fruit and we’ll eventually be like a dead branch. So, kids, remember to stay connected to Jesus to produce much fruit that honors God.

In John’s gospel, Jesus told his disciples “Every branch in me that does not bearing fruit, he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” Kathairo is the Greek word for “prune,” or “cleanse.” In farming, it referred to cleaning the husks off corn and cleaning the soil before planting crops. “If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
